So today was a wonderful day...it was Nick's and my 2 year. We planned to start the day by waking up at 8 and heading to Squaw. Well, after waking up at 10, getting Subway and saying hi to Mom at work, we were on the hill at 11:30. We wanted to get up there early so the snow would be less spring-like, but it turns out the cold winds had kept it nice up there. Except for a few icy spots, the snow was great. And guess what? I'm starting to learn how to turn better! Before today I was mostly doing a pizza all the way down the hill, but with this new technique, I can start going on intermediate slopes. :-) Yay...I think.
After I had skied for an hour and a half, I was pretty tired so Nick went on to do his advanced runs while I toured around high camp for a while. Actually, I mostly sat on a bench outside because my boots are so squeaky. The guy in there actually shushed me (jokingly) when I walked inside. Yeah, like I wanted to continue making horrendous squeak noises with my shoes when everyone else was quiet. So I was outside for a good 15-20 minutes, but then the wind was getting bad so I loosened them to the point where I was barely in them anymore and found a window seat inside overlooking Tahoe. That is one great thing about Squaw - once you get up to High Camp, you have great views of Lake Tahoe. Beautiful!
Around 2:30 Nick was getting pretty tired too, so we took the cable car back down to our car. It can be pretty freaky riding 1000 ft above the ground with gusting winds. But alas, we made it down to the ground safely and then we were on our way to see Nick's aunt and uncle in South Lake. It was mostly a quiet visit and after 45 minutes we were on our way to dinner.
Up in Incline Village there is a little place with 9 tables and retro ski posters on the wall. They have a limited menu and play jazz and little petite foreign songs. This place is called La Fondue. Amazing!!!! Nick and I had the dinner for 2, which came with a soup/salad, cheese fondue, and then meat fondue. We both had the salad (french dijon for me, blue cheese for Nick), then came Nick's favorite part of the meal - the cheese. It's a traditional swiss fondue that came with bread cubes, apples, pears and grapes. Mucho bueno...then it was time for the main entree. She brought out a pot of oil and a platter full of meat - for each of us, there were two pieces of chicken, two pieces of fillet mignon, two shrimp, a meatball and veggies. In addition there was 6 dipping sauces and tempura batter for the veggies and shrimp. It was so nice to take our time with dinner and sit and talk, and it was very romantic once the family with the screaming baby left ;-)
After fondue we went down the street a little to a beach to take a stroll in the moonlight. We just sat under the stars and enjoyed each others company. Wonderful wat to say goodbye to Tahoe. Then we continued up Mount Rose Highway to the Tahoe lookout. Since no one was there, we sat on the little monument thing and just cuddled to the glow of the lights of Tahoe. Sigh, so romantic. We took a slight detour to the Slide side of Mount Rose to look out over Washoe Valley and Reno. The groomers were out on the mountain so we watched them for a while too. It was finally time to go home, so here I am. It has been a great day and I can't wait until January 12, 2010 so we can spend that much money on dinner again.
*pleasant sign* lol

I got to work late, my boss bought us Olive Garden, Mom made me pulled pork sandwiches and I went through my music files. Not an all around exciting day, but not bad either. Pales in comparison to yesterday that had camping/Tahoe. Good times

I came across a journal that made it so watching a movie or reading a book had more of a point than just self-accomplishment. So I'll do it for summer! This is a holding place for now, 'cause now I have to think back to what I've watched and read so far :-)

I wake up with a migraine, fail the stupid TSA test, and I find Baby (my favorite rat) dead in her cage. I really just want this day to end so maybe tomorrow can be better.

I'm back from my summer vacation! It was all pretty much amazing, mostly high points with some low points. I still feel the boat moving from the cruise though lol. I'm either going to post my journals in here or find a site where I can use pics and not have it cram everyone's friend pages. So with that being said, I'm going to start on the pics and update when I figure everything out :-)

So how cool is this? I am right now hooked up to the free wireless at the Starbucks at Squaw Valley. So instead of sitting on my couch mindlessly wasting time, I can be looking at a snowboarder fall on the mountain or little kids trampolining. 'Course I should be doing my English final, but hey, I always have after the battery runs out on my laptop (which is in about 57 mins...
